A well written fantasy book。 Found it a little hard to relate to our main character， a little more internal dialogue about the emotions of our main character would help。 During some scenes where something of large emotional significance happens our main character acts like a robot and I understand in extreme circumstances there is no time to feel but she must deal with the emotions at some point？ Still very good and intriguing。

My mom gave me this book as well as the other two as a kid。 Reading this was one of my favorite things to do after I got home from school。 About to finish the 3rd book。 I would definitely recommend the trilogy to others。

The first chapter was a bit difficult to get into， but the characters come alive very quickly as the story develops。 I’m not 100% why most people give the book four star BUT the audiobook。。 FANTASTIC

I loved it—fast paced， beautifully written。 This was a dramatized audiobook and I usually avoid multiple narrators （Lincoln in the Bardo being an important exception）， but this went down just fine。 On to Lyra’s adventures in Volume 2。
